Penny Miller is a faith based psychotherapist and transformational life coach for believers that desire to live a better life and are willling to commit to the process. Penny is passionate about serving clients that have experienced emotional distress and desire relief but lack awareness, knowledge and tools to cope. Penny can relate to experiencing distress. Growing up in a single parent home she experienced loss and knows about hard times. She’s learned hard lessons from the School of Hard Knocks, which lead to the road of self-discovery and healing. Those life experiences coupled with doing her own inner work has resulted in a commitment to serve and share information with others to help get them unstuck and become their best God created self.
Penny is the founder and C.E.O. of A Better You Today, LLC. She is a psychotherapist, group facilitator, transformational speaker and Tony Gaskins trained Life Coach. She is a dully trained therapist: Clinical Social Worker and Recreation Therapist. Penny earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Therapy from North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC. She is a also a graduate of Howard University, Washington, DC and holds a Master of Social Work degree, Mental Health concentration.
Throughout her professional career, Penny has over 15 years of mental health experience. She has served in various environments providing mental health treatment and supportive services to individuals in rural and urban communities of North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland and Washington, DC. She has experience working with children, adolescents and adults. She has served individuals with behavioral health needs in inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization and residential treatment settings. Penny has worked with individuals that have experienced anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, military personnel and their families, male perpetrators of domestic violence, victims of domestic violence and individuals with anger and aggressive behaviors.
Penny exercises an attitude of non-judgment and acceptance with the clients she serves. She is knowledgeable, wise, intuitive, compassionate and is an excellent listener. Penny’s interests are: trauma, depression, anxiety and relationship issues. She has an eclectic approach combining, person centered, cognitive-behavioral and strengths based treatment modalities into her practice. As a result of working with Penny clients will receive information, obtain tangible tools and will be equipped to take action and move forward towards achieving their personal goals.
In her spare time she enjoys reading, journaling, traveling, spending time with her friends, family, and volunteering in her community.
